About Me

Dreams Before Waking musically embodies that misty, edge-of-consciousness moment of surfacing from the underworld of sleep into the perception of reality. Comprised of musical talents, Ray Price and Michael Oster, you will be taken on a journey of complex rhythms and original compositions as well as imaginative re-workings of dark and traditional English ballads. From the unique musical framework of Dream Before Waking's genre fusing approach, one may be reminded of Michael Brook, Dead Can Dance, and David Sylvian (Rain Tree Crow). Join Dreams Before Waking on an atmospheric journey into Myth, Magic and Mayhem and experience the dreamworld made tangible.

We are still looking for an interesting musician to join us!

We posted this on Craigslist this morning - do you know anyone who might fit?

Hi there ~ We are 'Dreams Before Waking,' a band playing interesting (well, we think it is) music that fuses various genres.

We are by turn psychedelic, dark, arty, ambient and folky. Imagine a combination of Dead Can Dance, Peter Gabriel, Japan, David Sylvian, Tom Waits etc. etc.

You can hear examples of our demos at: http://www.dreamsbeforewaking.com ~ click on 'music'

At the moment, we are a vocalist (with a real English accent) who also plays bass, strings and synth, a guitarist who plays electric, acoustic, 12 string and mandolin + a drummer who plays kit and Middle Eastern hand percussion.

We NEED another INTERESTING instrumentalist. You can play cello, accordion, synth (and take over from me), violin, sitar, saxophones or anything else OTHER THAN guitar. PLEASE have transport to get to rehearsals and gigs, pro gear, a pro attitude and no MAJOR addictions. Age and sex are less important than the ability to know your instrument and to be able to contribute to our arrangements without being told what to play. We have all been around the block a few times, so gray/white hair is NO problem.

We have been very well received everywhere that we have performed (even though we have had to use a backing track to fill out the sound live). This is something that we don't want to continue ~ we HATE IT.

So, please get in touch if you think that you can add something cool to our very fluid soundscape. We are at the stage where you can still contribute significantly to our future sound!

PLEASE have online examples of your work for us to listen to.

Cheers,
Ray

Oh No!

I was preparing the backing tracks for our first performances - mixing them / balancing them / muting anything that is going to be performed live - when the 1.5TB drive that I use for storage, decided not to work anymore! I could 'see' the files, but I couldn't open them or copy them!

After many frantic calls to data retrieval services, I visited one this morning (Saturday) and I am told that there is internal damage to the drive. So, the company is going to make a 'mirror' copy of my drive and then copy their version back onto a new drive (which I purchased this morning). This could NOT have come at a worse time. Our first gig is on September 25th.  I was also going to mix and balance the demo material with all the instruments - guitar / voice / drum loops etc. - for a CD to sell at the event.  This has really set back my plans! I am promised that "if" the material is retrievable (if???), then it will be available by Tuesday. Please keep your fingers, toes and any other body parts crossed for us - a prayer to the Goddess might be in order too. If the recordings aren't retrievable, then we will be doing our first gigs "unplugged." That will be un-planned!
Stay tuned ...
